Precision Engineering for Aerospace: Why Quality and Traceability Matter

Meeting the Exacting Standards of the Aerospace Industry

When it comes to aerospace manufacturing, precision and quality are essential. Components are often highly complex, manufactured from challenging materials and required to perform reliably in some of the most demanding environments.

At Mollart Engineering (Chessington), we have extensive experience in precision subcontract machining and deep hole drilling, providing process-driven solutions for customers where accuracy, consistency and quality are crucial.

Our continued investment in people, machinery and quality systems enables us to support increasingly complex projects, particularly within the aerospace sector.

AS9100 Certification

Quality has always been at the heartbeat of Mollart Engineering and achieving AS9100 certification was an important milestone for our Chessington facility.

AS9100 is the internationally recognised quality management standard developed specifically for the aerospace, aviation and defence industries.

For our customers, this provides additional confidence that projects are being managed within a robust quality management system, where processes, documentation and quality control are fundamental throughout production.

Combined with our ISO 9001:2015 certification, it further demonstrates our commitment to providing consistently high standards of precision engineering.

Precision Machining for Complex Components

Aerospace components can present engineers with some particularly difficult machining challenges.

Complex geometries, tight tolerances and demanding materials mean that having the correct machinery is only part of the solution. The knowledge and experience required to develop a reliable machining process is equally important.

At our Chessington facility, we have an extensive range of CNC machining and deep hole drilling capabilities, including:

  • Advanced 5-Axis machining
  • CNC Gundrilling
  • BTA deep hole drilling
  • Turning, Milling and Honing

This allows our experienced engineering team to develop complete manufacturing solutions for highly complex components, including shafts, rotors, spindles and other components used within aerospace equipment.

Quality Control and Inspection

Producing a precision component is only part of the process. Being able to accurately inspect and verify the finished component is equally important.

Our Chessington facility has a dedicated temperature-controlled inspection department equipped with advanced Wenzel Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and a comprehensive range of measuring equipment.

Having these facilities in-house enables our experienced inspection team to accurately verify complex components and ensure they meet the required specifications before leaving our facility.

Everything Under One Roof

One of the major advantages we can offer customers is the ability to manage multiple manufacturing processes within one facility.

Our extensive machining capabilities, combined with inspection, project management and additional finishing and testing services, mean that highly complex projects can be managed from the initial machining stages through to final inspection.

Keeping more of the manufacturing process under one roof can help simplify the supply chain, improve communication and reduce unnecessary movement of components between different suppliers.

Most importantly, customers have the reassurance of knowing that their project is being managed by an experienced team throughout the manufacturing process.

Nearly 100 Years of Engineering Experience

Mollart has been involved in engineering since 1929 and over that time we have worked with an enormous variety of materials, components and machining applications.

While manufacturing technology continues to evolve, the importance of engineering knowledge and experience remains the same.

By combining this experience with continued investment in modern CNC machinery, inspection technology and quality systems, we are proud to support the aerospace industry with precision engineering solutions for some of its most challenging applications.
