Introducing The botek Type 113 HP Gundrill

Mollart Engineering Providing On-Site Gundrill Tooling Support

Mollart Engineering spends a lot of time and resources in finding solutions to complex and bespoke deep hole drilling queries. Working closely with our partner botek, we want to ensure customers get the very best from their tooling. Therefore, we believe that providing on-going support is a crucial element when it comes to maximising tooling performance and getting the right set-up.

Only recently our tooling division visited B.CH Services Ltd at their facility based in Kent. They needed support and guidance drilling the following dimensions: Ø1.0±0.01mm x 21mm deep with the Botek Type 113 HP Gundrill.

The Brief

The customer needs to manufacture 600,000 components from Stainless steel 316 with a total cycle time of less than 50 seconds each.

The Challenge

They require the components to have a Ø1.0±0.01mm x 21mm deep hole through the centre.

The botek 113 HP Gundrill

The botek 113 HP (high performance) Carbide Gundrill was the perfect drilling tool for these dimensions. Designed with a kidney-shaped coolant channel, the tool is an efficient and effective alternative to carbide twist drills. The customer needed assistance in the application of the tool in order to achieve the desired outcome.

The botek Type 113 HP Gundrill - Outperforming Other Manufacturers Options

Eliminating a second reaming operation

Mollart’s experienced application team spent time on site supporting  B.CH Services Ltd by establishing a successful drilling solution to achieve a tolerance of ±0.01mm, without the requirement for a second reaming operation. This far outperformed other manufacturers’ options in quality and repeatability.

The type 113 HP Gundrill successfully drilled 8000 components before the need to change the drill!

The Mollart and botek ‘Re-New’ Service for Reducing Costs

With Mollart and botek managing a re-new service, we can refurbish the drills back to the manufacturer’s specifications. For B.CH Services Ltd this provided the best commercial option for keeping the cost per part to a minimum.
