Light to Medium Drillsprint Machines
The light to medium drillsprint range of machines for example, cover a broad spectrum of deep hole drilling applications. With Full Fanuc control packages, the machines can be developed easily to match the performance of the materials and tooling. Special machine cycles are now standard with these machines, so full ramp feed and speed are possible and can be applied on entry and exit of the product.

In the course of making deep hole drilling machines, Mollart has many challenges that take the process beyond its standard capabilities. Deep hole drilling as a process provides the capability to drill on centre components with accuracy 0.1mm / 100mm, measured as a runout or 0.05mm / 100mm if the part is counter-rotated to the drill. Some of our medical customers are working with difficult materials, such as 6 AL4V, as well as looking for run out tolerances better than 0.2mm over 500 - 600mm.
Finding solutions that work within the parameters the customer is looking for is challenging. Even more so, when the parts coming to the drilling operation can often be bent up to 1mm from the prior turning operations. Mollart’s solution called upon all the resources from our in-house machine design, to specialist tooling from our German Partner Botek. With the combination of precision Hydraulic Collet Chucks at either end of the part and high precision work steadies (which ensure the part remains on centre line), the component work holds true the part to within 0.025mm all over. With the specially developed tooling and Mollart special drilling cycles, we were able to repeat the tolerances required. This has allowed many of our customers to automate the process and save a great deal of money.
